On the occasion of the catalog release of her exhibition at Kunstverein Heilbronn, Solweig de Barry invites five Berlin artists to exhibit with her at Vorfluter, Neukölln.

 

The good thing about painting, unlike text, is that it is always concrete. Real, already in the world. 

If you want to paint, you ask, you search and miss something. Those who paint claim something and at the same time already want to prove it.

At best, something emerges that was not yet in the world, but should be added, if not opposed to it. At first glance it may seem a little flat, but it gives the beholder precisely this sense of a previously unrealised state: 

it could be SO beautiful.

Christian August (*1977 in Halle (Saale), Germany) studied at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle under the tutelage of Gerhard Schwarz. He is the founder and a member of the art group KLUB7, established in 1998. Since 2015, August has pursued his career as a solo artist. He lives and works in Berlin. August is an abstract painter who primarily works on large-scale canvases, but also on facades and assemblages. He is represented by the galleries Burster and Office Impart.

 

Solweig de Barry (*1987 in Strasbourg, (F)) is a painter and completed her studies as a Meisterschülerin at the UdK Berlin in 2014. In 2020 she was awarded the Goldrausch Scholarship. In 2023 she received the Working Grant from the Stiftung Kunstfonds Bonn. Her works have been shown at Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien (2020) and most recently at Kunstverein Heilbronn (solo-2024). She lives and works in Berlin. 

 

Daniel Hahn (*1987 in Saarbrücken), graduated with diploma at Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar in 2014. Rooted in exploring public spaces, his artistic approach combines impulsive painting gestures, text fragments, graphic finds and (visual) humor. In 2020 he co-founded the covid archive and exhibition platform Raumwww. His works were exhibited in Cologne, Paris, New Zealand, Seoul and – of course – Saarbrücken. He lives and works in Berlin

Marie Jeschke is a visual artist, diver, and sailor. Her practice merges painting, performance, and material research into collective works. She founded collectives like empty_glass_collective, Jeschkelanger and MAIK Alles Gute. Since 2022, she has engaged in communication with bodies of water, painting directly in water using floating canvases. Her work is internationally exhibited and has received honors, including the Young Artist Grand Mecklenburg Vorpommern.

 

Toni Mauersberg (*1989 in Hanover) received various educations, for example in scouting, journalism and religious studies - but above all in painting: from 2009, she studied at the Berlin University of the Arts with Leiko Ikemura and later with Michael Müller. In 2017, she graduated as a master student and published her drawings under the title Not & Tugend. In 2020 she received the Georg Meistermann Scholarship. In her painting, she pursues a programmatic approach, playing with old masters and metaphysics. She works in Berlin.

 

Johannes Mundinger (*1982 in Offenburg) studied in Münster and Brussels. His work, mainly painting, is a reaction to places, situations and colors. He received scholarships from the Berlin Senate or Kunstfonds Bonn, was invited for exhibitions to Canada, Korea or Serbia and has painted walls in many European countries, but also in Israel, Mexico or the US.
